Cover Reveal: Skylark by Meagan Spooner & Giveaway!

Today I have the cover for Skylark by Meagan Spooner to show you and a chance to win THREE advance reader copies of Skylark!

If you’d like to learn a little bit more about Meagan or her novel, Skylark, these are the best places to stalk her:

What do you think about the cover?

I absolutely love it. The designer is Sammy Yuen, who is (in my totally unbiased opinion) completely brilliant. He designed the Incarceron and Sapphique covers, which were purchases I made spur of the moment in a bookstore SOLELY based on their amazing covers, making him one of the very few cover designers I actually recognize instantly by name. So I’ve been basically dancing nonstop since I found out he was designing my cover.

Lark is not one of those gorgeous, ballgown-wearing heroines–she spends much of the book dirty, sunburned, sleep-deprived, on the verge of starvation, running for her life. There’s just no way to put her on the cover looking glamorous. I’m so glad that the cover instead is about the feel of the book… magical, dark, tangled. And of course, the iron filigree at the corners hearkens back to the book’s original title, and Lark’s end goal, to reach safety in the Iron Wood. I’m just in love with the colors and textures.

Did you have any input on the final cover?

I got to see this cover every step of the way from when it was just a photograph image of a misty forest. I was all prepared to fight for awesomeness, but when it came down to it, I loved everything so much that I had no complaints! At one point the title was a bit hard to read, and that got changed, but other than that, the cover design seemed (from my perspective, anyway) to be extremely smooth sailing.

Is there anything you can share about Skylark that isn’t included in the synopsis?

Be ready for anything. Words I keep seeing in people’s reviews and reactions are unexpected, shocking, unique, etc. I love books that take you to places you didn’t expect to go, and that’s why I tried to do with Skylark. While on the surface Lark’s journey is a physical one from the place where she was born to the place she hopes she’ll belong, there’s a lot that changes along the way. It goes from a story of simple survival to something much darker.

Praise for Skylark:

“Intense and absorbing, Skylark transported me to a world of magic and danger unlike anything I’ve read before. Dark, original, and beautiful, this is a novel you don’t want to miss.” — Veronica Rossi, author of Under The Never Sky

“Skylark’s rich narrative and plucky heroine will transport you into a mesmerizing and horrifying world.” — New York Times Bestselling Author Carrie Jones

What Skylark is all about:

Vis in magia, in vita vi. In magic there is power, and in power, life.

For fifteen years, Lark Ainsley waited for the day when her Resource would be harvested and she would finally be an adult. After the harvest she expected a small role in the regular, orderly operation of the City within the Wall. She expected to do her part to maintain the refuge for the last survivors of the Wars. She expected to be a tiny cog in the larger clockwork of the city.

Lark did not expect to become the City’s power supply.

For fifteen years, Lark Ainsley believed in a lie. Now she must escape the only world she’s ever known…or face a fate more unimaginable than death.

In Meagan Spooner’s compelling debut, magic, technology, and human frailty collide in a brilliant new world.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Lost Souls- Shadowhunter Chapter Reveal!

I am so THRILLED to be a part of the Shadowhunter Chapter Reveal! Today I have the honor of revealing PART FOUR of CHAPTER ONE. Each stop on the banner above will feature a different part of chapter one, so you’ll have to visit each stop to complete the chapter.

This will be your only chance to get a sneak peek at City of Lost Souls before it’s release date. There is a strict embargo on this book… so that means no advance reader copies! City of Lost Souls will be hitting shelves on May 8th so be sure to pre-order it or add it to your calendar so you won’t forget! I know I will be!

In addition to giving you sneak peek at the first chapter, I also have a GIVEAWAY!! Thanks to the wonderful people at Simon & Schuster and Cassandra Clare…. you can win a copy of City of Lost Souls AND one VERY LIMITED EDITION Shadowhunter Family Ring!

The demon Lilith has been destroyed and Jace has been freed from her captivity. But when the Shadowhunters arrive to rescue him, they find only blood and broken glass. Not only is the boy Clary loves missing–but so is the boy she hates, Sebastian, the son of her father Valentine: a son determined to succeed where their father failed, and bring the Shadowhunters to their knees.

No magic the Clave can summon can locate either boy, but Jace cannot stay away—not from Clary. When they meet again Clary discovers the horror Lilith’s dying magic has wrought—Jace is no longer the boy she loved. He and Sebastian are now bound to each other, and Jace has become what he most feared: a true servant of Valentine’s evil. The Clave is determined to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. Will the Shadowhunters hesitate to kill one of their own?

Only a small band of Clary and Jace’s friends and family believe that Jace can still be saved — and that the fate of the Shadowhunters’ future may hinge on that salvation. They must defy the Clave and strike out on their own. Alec, Magnus, Simon and Isabelle must work together to save Jace: bargaining with the sinister Faerie Queen, contemplating deals with demons, and turning at last to the Iron Sisters, the reclusive and merciless weapons makers for the Shadowhunters, who tell them that no weapon on this earth can sever the bond between Sebastian and Jace. Their only chance of cutting Jace free is to challenge Heaven and Hell — a risk that could claim any, or all, of their lives.

And they must do it without Clary. For Clary has gone into the heart of darkness, to play a dangerous game utterly alone. The price of losing the game is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she even still trust him? Or is he truly lost? What price is too high to pay, even for love?

Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.

The prologue was released earlier this year on USAToday. You can read Part One at Cassandra Clare’s Tumblr, Part Two at Novel Novice, and Part Three at Eve’s Fan Garden.

I’m Candor Faction Leader!

Faction Before Blood

Are you getting excited for the release of INSURGENT?!? (May 1, 2012) I know that I am. Divergent was one of my favorite books last year… if not my most favorite and I’ve been dying to read the sequel since I turned the last pages!

This weekend I was given a task as a Dauntless to distribute some faction tattoos at THE HUNGER GAMES movie! It was a lot of fun handing out the tattoos and telling fans about Divergent! (And wasn’t the movie AWESOME!?) In addition to the task I was told I would receive a package on March 26th, the contents of which are highly coveted.

I came home to a package on monday enclosed with this:

There was also a folder in there with some paperwork…. but this was the really good stuff, AN ARC OF INSURGENT! I might have screamed and flailed around the house like a ridiculous mad woman, but my husband is totally used to it, so no problem!

There were FIVE blogs that were awarded these arcs and also became leaders of the factions.

Divergent Fans— Dauntless
Divergent Examiner— Abnegation
Divergent Lexicon— Amity
The Story Siren— Candor
Bookalicious— Erudite

I am so honored to be included! But that’s not all! Nine initiates will be joining me in the Candor Faction! Those nine initiates will be receiving their own arc of Insurgent! The other Factions will be gaining nine initiates each as  well! I won’t find out who my initiates are until later, but I hope to lead them to victory! You can follow the information on Twitter by looking for the hashtag #DivergentNation. And don’t forget to follow the Candor Tumblr!

There is more excitement to come!
