Absolutely LOVED this one. One of my favorite reads of the year by far. I loved the first book Shadow and Bone and Siege and Storm was even better.
I’m going to try to make this review spoiler free…. but there will be references to the first book, so if you haven’t read that yet, stop reading this now and get on that!
Siege and Storm starts just as we left Alina and Mal. They are on the run and hoping to stay under the radar, but things rarely happen as planned.
It didn’t take long for me to be completely captivated and immersed back into this world that Bardugo has created. It was even more magical and thrilling this time around. The costumes, the settings, even the food! I never want to leave, I mean, I never want the story to end.
We’re introduced to some new and unforgettable characters (I’m talking about you, Sturmhond) and of course some of our old favorites. Sturmhond immediately intrigued me, I knew there had to be something more going on there and his part of the story did not disappoint, although I still love the Darkling and Mal. Poor Alina. Speaking of Alina, I loved her in this installment. She’s really started to assert herself and her part in this world. I can’t wait to see her in book three. Especially after that crazy ending.
The ending killed. Seriously. So good, yet so torturous! I can’t wait for the next one. Another part that killed me was Mal and Alina’s relationship. Can’t they just be together!
Fans of the first book will not be disappointed in this book. I cannot wait to read the next installment in this series.
