Blog Tour: Salvation by Anne Osterlund & Giveaway

A smart, unexpected romance from an award-winning author.Salvador Resendez–Salva to his friends–appears to have it all. His Mexican immigrant family has high expectations, and Salva intends to fulfill them. He’s student body president, quarterback of the football team, and has a near-perfect GPA. Everyone loves him.
Especially Beth Courant, AKA the walking disaster area. Dreamy and shy, Beth is used to blending into the background. But she’s also smart, and she has serious plans for her future.
Popular guy and bookish girl–the two have almost nothing in common. Until fate throws them together and the attraction is irresistible. Soon Beth is pushing Salva to set his sights higher than ever–because she knows he has more to offer, more than even he realizes.
Then tragedy strikes–and threatens to destroy everything that Salva has worked for. Will Beth’s love be enough to save him?
Tell me FIVE things that you LOVED about writing SALVATION!
-The conflict within Salva.
-His passion.
-Beth’s heart.
-Salva’s older sister’s ability to butt in & make her brother’s life difficult.
-Papá’s desire to make his children’s lives better.
What can fans of your previous books expect in SALVATION?
Salvation is my first contemporary novel; but ultimately, I think, my readers of Academy 7, Aurelia, and Exile will recognize the heart of the story. Two voices. Two characters—torn by conflict, driven to change their lives, and determined to follow their hearts.
Although SALVATION is fictional did you have any interesting research moments?
Absolutely. I spent one afternoon brushing up on my oil-changing technique, hours digging through deadly literature, and several days discussing all manner of tragic issues with my source. But my favorite research moment involved Beth—and some serious research into flavored lemonade. As recorded here.
You’ve written historical fantasy and science fiction, what was different about writing a contemporary fiction?
Each genre has its own beauty and challenges, as I explained to Aurelia, the heroine of my fantasy novels, Aurelia and Exile, in my blog post on Post-its, Paperclips, and Miniature Skateboards.
The greatest difference, though, is that even when the stories reflect modern issues, there is a certain barrier that exists in fantasy and sci-fi. In contemporary fiction, that barrier is void. The issues are real and immediate.
Which books are you most excited for this new year?
In my immediate reading queue:
Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally
Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer
Hill 567 and ‘Tis the Season by Zack Emerson (aka Ellen Emerson White)
The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen
New & Upcoming Books:
Scent of Magic by Maria V. Snyder
Battle Magic by Tamora Pierce
Scarlet by Marissa Meyer
Fullriders, #1 by Simone Elkeles.
It Happened at the Fair by Deeanne Gist
Things I Can’t Forget and Racing Savannah by Miranda Kenneally.

I stopped making resolutions years ago because they’re pre-destined to fail. Instead, I set goals for myself – things I want to accomplish in the year ahead. This year, I want to finish more of the projects I’ve started and be more productive.
