Blog Tour: Salvation by Anne Osterlund & Giveaway

15769992

A smart, unexpected romance from an award-winning author.

Salvador Resendez–Salva to his friends–appears to have it all. His Mexican immigrant family has high expectations, and Salva intends to fulfill them. He’s student body president, quarterback of the football team, and has a near-perfect GPA. Everyone loves him.

Especially Beth Courant, AKA the walking disaster area. Dreamy and shy, Beth is used to blending into the background. But she’s also smart, and she has serious plans for her future.

Popular guy and bookish girl–the two have almost nothing in common. Until fate throws them together and the attraction is irresistible. Soon Beth is pushing Salva to set his sights higher than ever–because she knows he has more to offer, more than even he realizes.

Then tragedy strikes–and threatens to destroy everything that Salva has worked for. Will Beth’s love be enough to save him?

Tell me FIVE things that you LOVED about writing SALVATION!

-The conflict within Salva.
-His passion.
-Beth’s heart.
-Salva’s older sister’s ability to butt in & make her brother’s life difficult.
-Papá’s desire to make his children’s lives better.

What can fans of your previous books expect in SALVATION?

Salvation is my first contemporary novel; but ultimately, I think, my readers of Academy 7, Aurelia, and Exile will recognize the heart of the story. Two voices. Two characters—torn by conflict, driven to change their lives, and determined to follow their hearts.

Although SALVATION is fictional did you have any interesting research moments?

Absolutely. I spent one afternoon brushing up on my oil-changing technique, hours digging through deadly literature, and several days discussing all manner of tragic issues with my source. But my favorite research moment involved Beth—and some serious research into flavored lemonade. As recorded here.

You’ve written historical fantasy and science fiction, what was different about writing a contemporary fiction?

Each genre has its own beauty and challenges, as I explained to Aurelia, the heroine of my fantasy novels, Aurelia and Exile, in my blog post on Post-its, Paperclips, and Miniature Skateboards.

The greatest difference, though, is that even when the stories reflect modern issues, there is a certain barrier that exists in fantasy and sci-fi. In contemporary fiction, that barrier is void. The issues are real and immediate.

Which books are you most excited for this new year?

In my immediate reading queue:
Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally
Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer
Hill 567 and ‘Tis the Season by Zack Emerson (aka Ellen Emerson White)
The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

New & Upcoming Books:
Scent of Magic by Maria V. Snyder
Battle Magic by Tamora Pierce
Scarlet by Marissa Meyer
Fullriders, #1 by Simone Elkeles.
It Happened at the Fair by Deeanne Gist
Things I Can’t Forget and Racing Savannah by Miranda Kenneally.

Salva, Beth, and I hope you all enjoy their story! Please feel welcome to visit us any time:

End of the Year Book Survey!

I decided to participate in The End of the Year Book Survey hosted by Jamie over at Perpetual Page Turner! You can participate too if you’d like! I’m not going to do the whole survey but pick and choose some parts of Jamie’s survey, and modify it slightly. And I’ve realized that I’m going to fail horribly at my Goodreads Reading Challenge! I just have a little over 100 and I wanted to do 180. Oops. Did anyone else not make theirs?

On to the survey!

128428281. Best Book You Read In 2012?

Can’t just pick one here.

Adult Fiction: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Romance: A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean
Contemp YA: My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
Dystopian YA: Surrender by Elana Johnson
Sci-Fi YA: A Million Suns by Beth Revis

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?

Timepiece by Myra McEntire

I LOVED Hourglass, book one, so perhaps I had high expectations for Timepiece. Not to mention it was narrated by one of my favorite characters in Hourglass, Kaleb! It just didn’t WOW me like I thought it was going to. Still, I must know what happens!

Score_CVR.indd3. Most surprising (in a good way!) book of 2012?

I have several books that fit into this one!

First off, Catching Jordan by by Miranda Kenneally. My initial thoughts were, “ugh, football.” After some convincing (Shanyn) I picked this one up and DEVOURED IT.

Then comes Surrender by Elana Johnson. I liked Possession well enough, but it wasn’t my favorite. So, I wasn’t expecting much from Surrender. And I ended up LOVING it. So suspenseful and awesome! Gah, I need the next one like NOW!

And finally Cinder by Marissa Meyer. The whole cyborg Cinderella thing really did nothing to entice my interest. But this book ROCKED! Can’t wait for SCARLET!

4. Book you recommended to people most in 2012?

Hmmmm…. probably Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. Not only is Leigh awesome, but so is her book. And also Cinder by Marissa Meyer.

107566565. Best series you discovered in 2012?

Under The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi, I read this one on the train to the RT convention, where I was also meeting Veronica and wanted to slap myself for waiting so long to read it. I also read Through the Ever Night early and loved that one even more!

Also Everneath by Brodi Ashton. I don’t feel like enough people talk about this series! This is another one where I read the next book, Everbound, early and it BLEW MY MIND!

6. Favorite siren inspired reads 2012?

The Vicious Deep by Zoraida Córdova & Of Poseidon by Anna Banks

7. Favorite series that ended in 2012?

The Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima. This isn’t only my favorite series that ended in 2012, it’s one of my favorite series of all time! These books are so good. If you haven’t read them, you really should!

8. Most thrilling, unputdownable book in 2012?

Insurgent by Veronica Roth. Holy crap, what didn’t happen in this book!

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo9. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2012?

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. After reading this book I appreciate the cover even more!

10. Longest Book You Read In 2012?

Coming in at 598 pages is The Crimson Crown by Cinda Williams Chima. I still don’t think it was long enough! I needed more!

11. Favorite Book You Read in 2012 From An Author You Read Previously

That would be Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols. I always love her books!

12. Best Book You Read That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else:

IF YOU FIND MEEasy by Tammara Webber. I probably would not have read this one had I not had several bloggers tell me to read it!

13. Books I read in 2012 (that come out in 2013) that you need to read!

Everbound by Brodi Ashton
Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi
The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay
If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch

Merry Christmas!

photoMy stockings are hung, my tree is up and decorated, and the presents are finally all wrapped! Although, I never did bake those cookies like I was planning. Oh well. It’s Christmas time!

And I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas!

I’ve been really lax on posts this month more than most, but they should be picking up here again soon! I hope anyway, that’s the plan, and I have all intentions of completing that plan. I will be taking an “official” hiatus for the next few days. I’m looking forward to spending the holidays with my family and eating some delicious food! Food seems to consume a lot of my thoughts these days. I have a Junior’s Cheesecake sampler that I can’t wait to dig into! YUM! I hope that you all have a wonderful holiday as well and take advantage of the time you have to spend with the people that mean the most to you, if you are able.

And of course I hope you have some time to get some reading in too!

I totally missed my 5 YEAR BLOGOVERSARY a few weeks ago! But I am planning on having a giveaway to thank all of you readers for sticking with me for five years!

Blog Tour

OPAL Blog Tour & Giveaway!

OpalNo one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well… There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different… And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger… and they know it.
