Grace’s life is a mess. Daniel is still a werewolf, Talbot can’t be trusted, and Caleb is still out there. With Sirhan’s impending death, war seems imminent. Will Grace give in to the wolf to save her family? What will happen to Daniel . . . and can their love survive one last test?

A Different Kind of LoveTriangle

First off, I have to say that I have nothing against romantic love triangles. I happen to really love a very well done romantic triangle—as evidenced by my extreme love for shows like Vampire Diaries. I was also obsessed a with the Sunfire Series as a teenager, in which each book featured a teenage girl torn between two love interests set in the midst of an important historical event in American history. They were fairly tame romance novels, but still my friends and I used to take them to slumber parties andstay up late, reading the books out loud to each other under the beam of a flashlight and stifling our excited exclamations over which guy the heroine was going to choose.

That being said, when writing the Dark Divine series, I wanted to explore a different kind of love triangle than what is normally found in most teen romance series. Instead of writing a romantic love triangle where a girl must choosebetween two love interests, I saw my story as a loyalty love triangle.

The first book in my series, THE DARK DIVINE, is the story of a girl who is torn between her loyalty to her brother Jude and her love for their former best friend, Daniel. Grace knows that something horrible happened between Jude and Daniel just before Daniel disappeared three years before, and now that Daniel has returned, Jude warns her to stay away from their old friend, but he refuses to tell her any more. Grace has always looked up to her brother and trusted him, but she has also always been in love with Daniel. Grace thinks that if she can uncover what happened between the two boys, she will be able to fix the problem and the three of them will be able to be a happy family again. However, digging into Daniel and Jude’s past ends up thrusting Grace into the middle of a paranormal underworld that she had no idea even existed. And Grace even ends up becoming infected with a curse that gives her super-human paranormal abilities.

This loyalty-love-triangle conflict grows and intensifies through the rest of the books in the trilogy as the stakes get higher and Grace is constantly having to choose between her responsibilities to her family members and her growing paranormal “destiny” that she found through Daniel. In book two, THE LOST SAINT, Grace desperately wants to learn how to use her new superpowers in order to become a hero—with the ultimate goal of rescuing her brother. And she must defy her father’s orders, and Daniel’s wishes—risking their relationship—in order to do it.

Now in the third book in the trilogy, THE SAVAGE GRACE, Grace must come face to face with the real world consequences of her quest to become a hero and save her brother Jude: everyone she loves is now in mortal jeopardy. Daniel, who tried to save Grace, is trapped in the form of a wolf, her father is in the ICU, her mentor Talbot can’t be trusted, her brother Jude seems as lost as ever, and a brewing battle between rival werewolf packs threatens to destroy her entire town. The twist is that as Grace realizes that her involvement in Daniel’s paranormal world is what caused her loved ones to be endangered, she also knows that the only way to become strong enough to protect them now is to fully embrace her paranormal super powers—and to rise to an even more extraordinary destiny than what she first imagined.

The Savage Grace is an exploration of finding the balance between responsibilities and dreams, wants and desires, mercy and justice, staying grounded while reaching for your destiny, and familial loyalty versus romantic love. Grace has one last chance to try to save her brother, but she realizes that she can’t do it alone—she needs Daniel’s help, too. Sadly, I can’t just tell you whether or not they succeed . . . you’ll just have to read the books to see how the loyalty-love-triangle plays out. :)
