Another cover reveal! I just LOVE cover reveals! Today, I am revealing My Heart Be Damned by Chanelle Gray, which will be hitting shelves this summer, July 15, from Knight Romance Publishing. This one is a 2012 debut novel too, so be sure to add it to your DAC lists! Also be sure to add it to your Goodreads Lists! And don’t forget to stop by Chanelle’s blog too!
About MY HEART BE DAMNED:
If you’re a Hunter, there are only three things you must know about the Damned. The Damned can’t lie, can’t live without a body, and can’t leave you alone.
Amerie Carter has the blood of a Hunter, unfortunately. She is one of a rare line of women who, upon her sixteenth birthday, will come into extraordinary powers used to hunt the Damned; escaped souls from Hell who take up residence in human bodies. It’s supposed to be her sweet sixteen, but Amerie has never dreaded a day more, and her worst fears are confirmed as the celebration turns tragic when her mother is killed.
Grief-stricken, Amerie vows to never hunt a day in her life. She’s determined to hide behind normalcy, attending school, hanging out with her friends and working an after-school job at The Hut. All Amerie wants is to be left alone. But try telling the Damned that. The harder Amerie tries to ignore her powers, the more the Damned come looking for her.
When an attack leaves one of Amerie’s friends in the hospital, and endangers the lives of her fellow students, she knows she has no choice: Hunt or Be Hunted. Thankfully, the gorgeous, secretive, and so-off-limits Marshal offers to train Amerie to take out her supernatural enemies. But training with Marshal means leading lying to her friends, her family, and confronting the mysterious circumstances surrounding her mother’s death.
Amerie soon discovers she’s not the only one with something to hide, Marshals’ secrets might kill her before the Damned get the chance.
AND, THE COVER:
What do you think about the cover?

LOVE the image. Less excited about the text. Maybe something more fitting with the image (not Papyrus)?

I have honestly never heard about this book till now but the cover does look pretty cool…although (idk why) the angle the girl has her neck at looks odd to me for some reason. But besides that it’s a cool cover.

I read the description after looking at the cover and have to say that first of all, the font doesn’t work. Especially not since they used two different fonts in the title and it pops off the page in a really awkward fashion. Plus, she’s a high school student who has a job, now unless the summary is missing something, I’m not really sure why she’d be wearing the gown she is shown in. No where in the summary does it mention her going to a dance or prom or formal, so it doesn’t really work for me. I think it would be 10 times more realistic if she was wearing some dark jeans and a darkish hoodie. It would be more the correct feel for the book. And perhaps a creepier font.
The summary makes this book interesting to me, and for that alone I’d read it, but I would not pick this up based on the cover.

I think the cover looks nice, it fits the story.

The font is very awkward like someone got lazy with photoshop. Which is disappointing because it makes the background picture look not as good as it could.

The cover is beautiful, although I think the way the title is looks a bit awkward, and the font doesn’t really work IMO. The tree’s also look a little cartoonish for lack of a better word, but I really like cemetery in the back and the girl in the pretty dress. The book sounds fantastic! I will be adding it to my TBR list.

I… Am trying very hard to not be sarcastic, so I apologise if I fail.
I don’t like this cover. It doesn’t say “I am a book about souls posessing people and fighting them and oh no, my life is on the line.” It looks… Bland, I guess. Heck, I didn’t even notice she was holding a knife until someone pointed out that it had been covered by the title. (And I agree with previous commentors who point out that the mix of fonts doesn’t work. I have seen it work well (I believe it was A Beautiful Dark that did this and it looked okay?), but here… It doesn’t look professional, is what I think is bothering me. It’s not necessarily a bad cover, but the photoshop is showing.
I’m sorry if this sounds harsh – I know that the current trend is for girls in impractical dresses in fields – however I do think that this cover doesn’t match the book it’s marketing.

It’s not a cover that appears indicative of a professional publishing house. It looks kind of amateurish to tell you the truth. I think a lot of that has to do with the font. Everyone has that title/author name font in their MS Word software.

I have to agree with previous posters on both the font and the photoshopped look of the cover. Also, why would you place your title over the knife the girl is holding? That doesn’t make sense..
I’m not really all that enthousiastic about this cover, to be quite honest. It doesn’t make me want to pick up the book or see what it’s about either. Although the concept sounds pretty intriguing, I think the cover doesn’t match the story either.
(I hope that didn’t sound harsh, I’m just telling what I think)

I have to agree with previous posters, too, on the font and photoshopped look of the cover. It looks so unprofessional that I don’t even. also, yeah, why would you place the title over the knife? I think it could definitely be better for this story. :shrugs:

The font on the cover makes the book like one of those cheep, self-published covers. Not a cover from a high publishing company.

Its okay, I’ve seen better. They need to change one thing though, that font just isn’t working with the cover. It makes it look amateurish

I love the trees at the top! They kind of look like the trees on the covers of The Wolves of Mercy Fall Series by Maggie Stiefvater. The thing that throws me off is the font. I think they should have gone with a thinner font that would make it look sophisticated. Kind of like the font on the cover of Of Poseidon by Anna Banks.

My guess would be she was wearing the dress to her party? Other than that, there really isn’t any sort of logical explanation why she’d be wearing it other than that’s the current trend. & add another person to the list of people who didn’t notice the knife. While the girl/background is pretty ‘blah’ for me, it’s the font (or fonts, I guess) that I have an issue with. Someone else had mentioned it looks more ‘self-published’ than professional and I completely agree.

Honestly, I hated. The girl has nothing to do with the background, she is too light and the rest so dark. The title is also too ugly, I didn’t like :/

I’ve never heard about this book, but the cover is pretty. I’ll have to check it out. I don’t like the fonts though.

I love the story summary, the book sounds amazing.
But… the cover. The fonts are unprofessional and look terrible, and the dress doesn’t seem to fit the character at all (I love Mel Barnes suggestion of a jeans and a hoodie). The model looks too old for YA as well.
I’d still pick up the book, because the story sounds great and the author seems skilled, but I’m disappointed by Knight Romance Publishing’s work.

It’s okay… For some reason the girl looks like she stepped out of a Babysitter’s Club book. I don’t know why I think that – it was just the first thought that came to me when I saw it!

It looks like the background, girl in the random dress, and the font were just throw together in 5 minutes in photoshop with little to no effort. D:
If I hadn’t already read and loved just the summary, after seeing the cover I probably wouldn’t look twice at it. ):
