2012 Reading Challenges
In addition to participating in the 2012 Debut Author Challenge, which I host, I’m really excited to participate in some other reading challenges happening next year!
But first… Let me list the books I’m hoping to tackle for the 2012 DAC!
List Key:
BOLD: Own ARC/Book
Italicized: Read but not reviewed
1. Incarnate by Jodi Meadows
2. Everneath by Brodi Ashton
3. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
4. Cinder by Marissa Meyer
5. Tempest by Julie Cross
6. Above by Leah Bobet
7. Fracture by Megan Miranda
8. Harbinger by Sara Wilson Etienne
9. The Alchemy of Forever by Avery Williams
10. Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood
11. Article 5 by Kristen Simmons
12. Slide by Jill Hathaway
And I’m sure at least 40 more books will be added to this list in the course of the year. (I’m not even kidding!)
The 2012 YA/MG Fantasy Challenge hosted by The Book Cellar.
Fantasy is my favorite genre, yet it seems that I don’t read enough of that, here’s hoping this challenge helps me remedy that!
My Fantasy Challenge List:
1. Grave Mercy by R.L. LaFevers
2. The False Prince by Jennifer Nielsen
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.
The Sophomore Reading Challenge hosted by Chick Loves Lit
One of the things that I love about the Debut Author Challange (and the reason I host it) is because I always discover from FABULOUS authors. And now an excuse to read those authors I discovered again, yay!
1. Insurgent by Veronica Roth
2. Fever by Lauren Desefano
3. A Million Suns by Beth Revis
4. Dreamless by Josephine Angelini
5. Perception by Kim Harrington
6. Enshadowed by Kelly Creagh
7. The Wood Queen by Karen Mahoney
8. In Honor by Jessi Kirby

10. A Touch Morbid by Leah Clifford
11.
12.
13.
14.
15.
The Completely Contemp Challenge hosted by Chick Loves Lit
I love Contemp novels and sometimes it seems they don’t get the exposure they deserve. Most of my favorite novels are Contemp novels! I’m don’t want to go overboard initially so I’m going to start moderately!
1. Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
2. The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson
3. Sea by Heidi R. Kling
4. Freefall by Mindi Scott
My 2011 Contemp List:
1. Ten Things We Did by Sarah Mlynowski
2. Popular by Alissa Grosso
3. Virtuosity by Jessica Martinez
4. Where Things Come Back by John Corey Whaley
My 2012 Contemp List:
1. In Too Deep by Amanda Grace
2. Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler
3. The One That I Want by Jennifer Echols
4. Being Friends with Boys by Terra Elan McVoy
If you know of any 2012 reading challenges, please do be sure to mention those in the comments section? Are you challenging yourself in 2012? I’d love to hear about the books you are reading.

Sounds like you’re participating in some really interesting challenges!
I’m participating in the e-book challenge hosted by Workaday Reads and the self-published challenge hosted by Workaday Reads as well!
I think they’re both going to be really interesting! Can’t wait!
I’m intrigued by the fantasy challenge as well, may have to look into that!

There’s legit 79 books on my Debut Author Challenge post. It’s ridiculous! But I’ve read 56 so far this year, – with 6 more than I plan to read by the end of the year, so maybe there’s hope
Also, yay fantasy! I should look into signing up for that.
1 book that is absolutely on my Contemp challenge list? Isla and the Happily Ever After. fiafjeaojp;fealk SO EXCITED.

I’m totally on board for the DAC and SRC challenges for next year as well! I have a ridiculous number of debuts that I want to read next year. I’m also hosting a 2012 “sequels” challenge that I think will be lots of fun but we’ll see how it goes as my first time doing something like that.
I considered the Contemp Challenge, but I didn’t want to be overly ambitious for next year!

I’ve been considering joining more that overlap with the challenges I already signed up for…is that cheating?

I’ve realized that I read way too much YA and so have determined to do some “heavier” reading just so you know, I have something to talk about with friends who look at me like I’m alien (with two heads and eyes on antennae, don’t you hate that?) when they ask me what I’m reading and I’m like…um…it’s about this vampire? Haha. (It happens when you are a lit major and everyone expects you to read stuff like Proust and you’ve never even heard of the man.)

I’m hosting one that I just created. It is the 3660 Minutes Reading Challenge. It is a challenge to read to children 10 minutes a day (366 days in 2012) for a total of 3660 minutes by the end of the year. I found so many challenges with people reading for themselves but found non that foster reading for children so I decided to just create one for myself. Anyone who is able to read to a child is welcome to join.

We at GatheringBooks are also hosting an Award-Winning-Book Reading Challenge for 2012. Here are the details for the challenge:

You are a reading machine! This will be my first year participating in and hosting any kind of reading challenge. I’m going to try my hand at hosting the Repeat (as in re-reads) Reading Challenge this year. I’ll also be participating in the YA/MG Mythology Reading Challenge hosted by For Those About to Read. I may not be the fastest reader (hence why I’m only doing two challenges), but I’m reeeeeeally excited about them both!

Thanks,
