2012 Goals Reading/Blogging/Life
It’s that time to our goals and resolutions for the upcoming year!
Last year I had a few goals. One of those goals was to read more. In 2010 I read just 110 books, this year I read 155. I think that I met and exceeded that goal. I didn’t however meet my goal of reading 180 books, but that’s a whole other story!
I also had a goal to be a more efficient blogger. That didn’t exactly work out like I wanted it to. I did keep up on my reviews, so that was good! But I still need to work on time management. I also need to be more proactive about keeping my publicity contacts up to date with review links. I’m also going to steal Galleysmith’s idea of listing 10 books to read for the month. I often get hung up picking out a book that I could have read one in the time it takes me to pick one out!
Emailing in a timely manner was another one of my goals. I did better with this than I did the year before, but I was still behind about a month. Unacceptable! And then finally in 2010 I made a goal to be more socially active. Twitter helped a lot with that! Although I wish I would have done more blog commenting.
Reading Goals for 2012
- I’m going to go out there again and aim to read 180 books. I should be able to do this! I shall prevail in 2012!!
- Read at least 65 debuts.
- Complete my reading challenges!
Blogging Goals for 2012
- Be a more efficient blogger!
- Answer my emails in a more timely manner.
- Comment more!
- Write more discussion posts.
- Expand my YouTube Channel. I love doing vlogs, I want to do more vlogs about books! Interrobang YA has helped a bit with that, but I’d like to do more.
- Reply to comments.
- Refrain from whining on Twitter. Although honestly I did a pretty good job of that this year. There were a few times where I just broke down about blogging drama/issues, but for the most part I’ve been taking my own advice and just ignoring it, or venting to a few blogging friends.
- Continue to learn about and utilize WordPress.
- Continue to grow the readership at The Story Siren.
- Continue to work on my writing skills.
- Finish one of my WIPs!
- Take this writing thing more seriously! I need to sit down and write. I write in my head, I take notes on my iPhone, I write in notebooks, I just need to sit down and put it all together and finish this story I’ve been working on! I’ve even started looking for a YA writing group in my area.
- Be more social!
Life Goals for 2012
- Work out more. I’ve been doing good about this, although I took a break around the holiday. I feel so much better and have more energy when I work out.
- Eat healthy. Again, something I’ve been doing well with but took a break for the holidays.
- Save.
- Travel more. Though this may make it hard to save.
I really need to take my hubs on a real vacation. - Take pride in my appearance. I’m a roll out of the bed, throw my hair up and head to work kind of girl. I don’t do much for myself. Like shop for clothes or paint my nails. I feel good about myself when I attempt to improve on my appearance, so I’m going to work on that. Something that’s just for me.
- Be more compassionate and thoughtful. I’m a selfish person. Not selfish in a bad way, but I know that I am. Which is why I don’t have children. I like doing me things, when I want to do me things. I used to be such a thoughtful person. Sending out cards all the time, buying a little gift for someone, just because. I don’t know what happened to that girl, but I want her back.
- To not be afraid to take chances in 2012 as they come. Even ones that make me uncomfortable.
- To spend more time with J.
- To spend more time with my family.
- Have fun.

I have a few similar goals to you that I’ll be posting tomorrow like – the nails/pride one. I never ever do my nails. In 2012 I SHALL HAVE PAINTED NAILS. lol.
Also, growing the readership. I mean, I quadrupled from December 2010 to 2011, but still, there’s room for me to grow.
Also the same with for working out too. I am so much more focused and nicer after a good hard run.
Happy New Years! May you accomplish all your goals and go on a sweet vacation with the hubs!

Seriously though! I feel like I need to try to make myself presentable! I’ve always been sort of Tom-boyish so I never really cared about that thing, but maybe it’s time!
Here’s hoping we are ripped in 2012! HA!

Wow some of your personal goals are things that I need to work on too. Like the whole roll out of bed, toss my hair up and go to work… I’d probably feel better if I straightened by hair and put on a little makeup… maybe that will be a goal for me this coming year. And I totally get your comment on being “selfish” – I feel that I am kinda that way too lately and I want to be more like the girl I was a few years ago.
Good luck with all of your goals!
I’m just aiming for happier and healthier in general… and I’m working on my CONTROL issues. LOL

So glad to know I am not the only one that way! But I really should put in an effort! I do feel better about myself when I throw a little mascara on and don’t look like a troll! HA!
Hope you make your goals for the year too!

These are all really good resolutions. My favorite is the one about not being afraid to take chances. After what’s been happening in my own life recently, I think I’m going to take that one for myself as well!

Totally agree with you on being more social. It’s so easy to just stay in your own world (especially when there’s a good book in hand) and forget about spending time with those people that make your quality of life so much better. Best of luck with it all!

Hi, Kristi. I’ve been reading your blog for a very long time, but I don’t comment often. (Sorry for that!) Just wanted to stop by and tell you how much I enjoy your blog and your writing. This is a great list of goals. 180 books? WOW! That’s some major reading. I wish you the best in 2012! I’m glad to see you writing more. When someone reads that much, I just know you’re going to produce a fantastic, original story. So good luck! I just know we’ll see your name on a cover in the future.

Wow…fantastic and inspiring goals~! Good luck with your writing- I know what you mean on the getting the butt in chair, but it sounds to me like you’ve got some good stuff going on in your head, taking notes, letting it brew-you are going to have lots to write! Finding a YA group (online or in person) will be a step in the right direction.
On this:
“I often get hung up picking out a book that I could have read one in the time it takes me to pick one out!”
Oh boy, do I ever hear you on that one.
Happy New Year and thanks for all you do!

I do something similar to what GalleySmith does with her 10 books a month thing. But what I do is just create a schedule for the month. I do three reviews a week (well, I try to) so I just have a list books by pub month and then take that month and figure out where to put each based on their pub date. It’s really fun to do, at least for me. But I’m weird, lol.
As for writing, maybe you and I should get on each other about that because that’s one of my goals for 2012 too. I’m close to 10,000 words on my WIP but I started it in July of 2010, so this is unacceptable. I need to try to write every day. Let’s try and work something out.
Good luck with all your goals!!

*ahem* I do not see the “Get a passport” goal on that list. YOU NEED TO GET ON THAT.
Once you do, you can then TRAVEL to Canada and see me. It will help with the SAVING part because you would have FREE lodging. Just sayin’. Although I do only have a double bed in the guest room so it would be squishy for you and J if you came together. That might be a problem. Hmm.
For the record, not having children is NOT selfish. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Seriously. It’s a life choice but it is not selfish. I shall not say any more on that matter because I have a lot of anger towards that idea. Stupid people I used to work with who were stupid. *gnashes teeth*
I do not know how I missed this post in my stalking of your blog. I am a failure as a stalker. *sobs*

When it comes to hair and makeup, I’m always making sure it looks good, but clothes….meh. I’m more jeans and a band t-shirt type of girl so I really want to try and dress more like a girl this year!
Twitter is one of those love/hate things. Because a lot of people in real life don’t follow me on there, I feel like I can rant more or something and then I look back and I cringe like okay Amber, you look like an ass. Just shut yo trap.
Here’s to 2012 being completely awesome and you accomplishing all your goals!

Here’s to not whining on Twitter. I don’t really have much blog drama, but whenever I open Tweetdeck I have an inexplicable compulsion to whine about just about anything I can think of. It’s a terrible habit I’m trying to break myself of.
I’m with you on the whole taking more pride in appearance, too. I wear scrubs to work and brush my hair out while in the last 5 minutes of my commute, so it’s pretty obvious I’m not dedicating quite enough effort to how I look. At work maybe I don’t care so much, but then it starts spilling over into life… =/
Hope you have a great year and accomplish your goals! =D
