Everyone else is talking about Eastlake High’s gorgeous new math teacher, Mr. Beck, but Kaylee Cavanaugh has bigger things on her mind. Kaylee’s a banshee—her scream is a portent of death.

But the next scream might hit too close to home. Kaylee’s borrowed lifeline has almost run out.

Yeah—it’s a shock to her, too. So to distract herself from her own problems, Kaylee is determined to defend her school against the latest supernatural threat. That hot new teacher is really an incubus, who feeds from the desire of unsuspecting students. The only girls immune to his lure are Kaylee and Sabine, her boyfriend’s delinquent ex-girlfriend. Now the unlikely allies have to get rid of Mr. Beck…before he discovers they aren’t quite human either.

But Kaylee’s running out of time, and those who love her will do anything to save her life.

ANYTHING.

A resident of San Antonio, Rachel Vincent has a BA in English and an overactive imagination, and consistently finds the latter to be more practical. She shares her workspace with two black cats (Kaci and Nyx) and her # 1 fan. Rachel is older than she looks-seriously-and younger than she feels, but remains convinced that for every day she spends writing, one more day will be added to her lifespan.

What things are you going to miss about this story and these characters, once the series is completed?

Everything. I love the characters and the world. I love that everyone who reads them seems to have a strong opinion, especially about the secondary characters. People either love or hate Nash (My Soul To Keep was traumatic for him). They love or hate Sabine. They love Tod, even when they hate what he’s doing. They hate Kaylee’s dad, then they start to love him.

I love that this series has given me a chance to write characters who are flawed in ways involving both reality and fantasy. I love that the world has given me no restrictions whatsoever. I’m going to miss this series like crazy once it’s over.

What book of the series has been your favorite to write and why?

Um… Each successive book is my favorite. I feel like I get better with each one, and I KNOW Kaylee gets stronger with each installment. With the exception of My Soul To Save (some readers didn’t like Addison and her sister), the readers seem to agree.

I loved My Soul To Steal, because that one introduced Sabine, who’s my favorite character to write. I loved If I Die, because some of those scenes I’d been planning for three full books, and so far it has the most shockers and spoilers of the entire series. But the truth is that I’ve loved writing them all.

For a reader who has never read the series, what would you say to get them to pick it up?….. a pitch for a reader if you will!

I’d say that as a paranormal YA, the Soul Screamers series will feel familiar to readers who are into the genre, but you won’t find any vampires, werewolves, witches, or anything else you’re probably expecting based on current genre fads.

Kaylee is a Banshee, what about that specific mythology drew your interest? Is there any other aspects of mythology that you enjoy.

The bean sidhe topic hadn’t been overdone in paranormals, so I knew there’d be plenty of fresh territory to cover. And yes, I love mythology. Mythology and Classical Epics were my favorite classes in college, and I feel like I could happily mine what I read there for inspiration for the rest of my life. The trick is coming up with a new twist.

Fall is just around the corner, what are you favorite fall traditions?

My husband and I decorate the yard for Halloween and we always do a Haunted Gingerbread house, which is a lot of fun.

What books do you have in your reading pile?

My TBR pile is huge. Literally, since I haven’t yet made the switch to ebooks, though I recently bought a Nook. Ashes, Abandon, and about a million books by friends, both in YA and adult.

If you could be any mythological creature/being, what would you be and why?

I think I’d be one of the Fates. But I suspect the power would go to my head.
