Evie finally has the normal life she’s always longed for. But she’s shocked to discover that being ordinary can be . . . kind of boring. Just when Evie starts to long for her days at the International Paranormal Containment Agency, she’s given a chance to work for them again. Desperate for a break from all the normalcy, she agrees.

But as one disastrous mission leads to another, Evie starts to wonder if she made the right choice. And when Evie’s faerie ex-boyfriend Reth appears with devastating revelations about her past, she discovers that there’s a battle brewing between the faerie courts that could throw the whole supernatural world into chaos. The prize in question? Evie herself.

So much for normal.

INTERNAL MEMO: INTERNATIONAL PARANORMAL CONTAINMENT AGENCY FIELD OPERATIVES

For those employees who have been wondering how best to dress to better perform their duties, we have compiled this easy guide. Title: Hey, Evie, stop wearing so many sparkles!

Because you will be on the move, we recommend comfortable shoes appropriate for blending in to crowds but also a quick jog should the situation call for it. Translation: The uglier the shoes, the more we approve! Sorry, folks. I will tase anyone who says four-inch heels on boots are not practical. And if my awesome footwear serves to distract whatever nasty I’m interacting with, even better! Style trumps comfort when it comes to shoes and heels are always appropriate.

Whenever possible, you should research ahead of time what the weather will be like in the area you are transported to. Remember that layers are your best bet. Dark, muted colors, and nothing that draws excess attention. At IPCA we pride ourselves on slipping in and out of any situation unnoticed. Except that part where we tase the living daylights out of some poor creature. Cause, you know, that’s so subtle. I refuse to wear black—have you seen my skin tone? A pop of bright color to set off my hair, and as far as layers, I’m so in love with scarves lately. Floral, shiny, striped, thick, thin, gauzy: so many options! And a bonus, taking off a scarf is like a striptease for that vamp you’re trying to lure into a secluded area for a bag-and-tag.

In the same vein, it’s of the utmost importance that you avoid any identifying items whatsoever. Anonymity above all. My Swarovski crystal EVIE necklace Lish gave me for my last birthday isn’t going anywhere, you bleeping control freaks. I feel naked without at least one piece of jewelry on.

Finally, remember that your weapon is your lifeline, and as such should be treated with respect and caution. Because our Tasers are custom made, they are irreplaceable. Please do not tamper with or modify your Taser in any way, whether internally or externally. What? I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that last part. I was too busy adding more bling to Tasey.

By working together, we can ensure that IPCA continues to operate in the most efficient manner possible. And if some of us want to look hot while doing that, well, you’re just going to have to keep writing lame memos, and I’ll keep looking fabulous in my aviator sunglasses while reading them.
