Last year I featured my trip with a different post covering each day. Instead of doing that this time around I’m just going to mention some of the highlights throughout my trip.
I got to the city Friday before the Expo and was joined by my husband for a few of the days I was there. I wanted to do some sightseeing with him before all the bookish things began. I have to say we did more in two days than I did my entire stay last year!

Getting to hang out and chat with you and Heidi away from the craziness of Javits was truly one of the highlights of my week. Thanks for letting me tag along at Shake Shack
Wow, sounds like it was quite the adventure! Thanks for sharing, I'm trying to absorb as many BEA details as I can =D
That dinner was definitely an AMAZING way to end my first day of the BEA floor. So much laughing and fun! Hopefully we'll see each other at PAYA again bc it's always a good time hanging out with you!! Great recap!
Sounds wonderful! I heard that some people acted up which is such a shame. But overall everyone seemed to have an awesome time! Thanks for the post, it must have taken you a while, so it's appreciated.
I'm so glad you had fun, Kristi.
Reading about BEA always sends this mix of appropriate jealousy, envy, and awe. The Harper breakfast and the S&S event sounded awesome, and you got to meet some really stellar authors. I remember seeing NYC for the first time last year – and going to my first book event a few weeks ago. Both combined would have been an experience.
What does suck is that group of bloggers. That is such a no-no. I would have been so pissed off at them. There was someone like that at the RTBF who said they wanted to say 'goodbye' to the authors because they were leaving, but really used it as a way to skip in front of some long lines. Ridiculous. It's polite to go to the back of the line and wait. If you have limited time, then you should prioritize.
I'm glad they didn't ruin your whole experience, but from the stories I've heard…scary stuff. I'm glad I won't be going for a few years yet. I want time to get used to book events and what I'm doing before I go into that hoard!
The best thing is that you enjoyed your trip.
And, it seems, gotten a lot of books to love and enjoy out of it. That's always nice, too. ^_^
This was such an awesome post! Thank you for sharing it with us! I heard about some of the bloggers who didn't act accordingly and it definitely made me think twice about going to BEA next year. But it seems the good outweighs the bad! Great post!

BEA sounds awesome! I was very new to blogging last year and I remember reading everyone's BEA post. I didn't even know what BEA was! (I'm from Ireland, not the US!) Now I so want to go some day!
Fury is one my my most anticipated future releases. I love that cover and can't wait to read it.
Glad you had a fun BEA experience, despite some rude people!
Thank you so much for posting this! I loved reading it. Sounds like you had an amazing time (too bad about the rude line-cutters, though… ugh!). How awesome to meet so many wonderful people!
Great post! Reagan and I missed the Simon Schuster get together on Monday because our flight came in too late – next year we are going a day early.
Did you Erica and Hedi go to TGIFridays and relive our experience out of sheer nostalgia?
I wish I could have gone. Hopefully next year… we can hang?
I'm so glad I got to meet you, too! Steal all the pictures you want
Wow! You met MEG CABOT!!!!!! Amazing! I'm new to book blogging but I started hearing about BEA on blogs a few weeks back and have been following posts about it ever since! I was waiting for your post to say how it had gone
It sounds like such an incredible experience – though how all you guys manage to organize meeting one another with so much going on I don't know! I can't wait to go myself someday – I've been to NY once and fell in love with it.
Sorry to read that some bloggers were rude – I really hate when people cut in like that – and they made some girl cry! Not cool.
Sounds like you had an amazing time! Though I have to admit, my blood pressure started rising just READING about that "bloggers behaving badly" incident. I can't imagine how enraging it must have been to be there and experience it!
Thanks for sharing your week with us! It sounds like you had an amazing time minus the rude people. I am already looking forward to and planning to attend next year.
It was so lovely to see you again! It was so fun this week.
I'm sorry about the people who cut you and that girl. Hopefully she's alright:)
Sounds like for the most part you had a really wonderful BEA experience. It's too bad that rude people even exist, let alone represent some of the book blogging population. I'm just happy to know that most bloggers are kind and super supportive, which you also seemed to see a lot of there too.
I will definitely be trekking it down to Miami for the This Is TEEN book tour. How could I miss three of the most amazing YA authors of all time? Bray's Gemma Doyle series was the first book that made me realize I loved YA.
Thanks so much for the recap!
Sounds like you have had quite an adventure
Glad you share this with us
Dreaming about going one year myself
Whould be an adventure
Enjoy your books and all your awesome memories
Thanks for the recap, Kristi! I appreciate everyone's posts about BEA since I wasn't able to attend. Sounds like a great time and I'm looking forward to hearing about all the awesome books!
I would be most interested in meeting everyone. Of course the books are great, but meeting online friends (bloggers, authors, publicists, librarians, teachers) would be the best part. I would even brave those rude people and line cutters to meet everyone else.
Meeting you was one of my highlights, Kristi, I'm glad you had such a rockin' time.
Blessings,
Gabrielle Carolina
Since I didn't go to BEA, it's great to read everybody's recaps and see what books they're interested in. It sounds like you had a lot of fun and managed to eat some good food
Wow, girl, it looks like you had such a fabulous time! Hubs was in NYC this week, too, and he brought me back some Devil's food cheesecake from Junior's. LOVED. IT. Enjoy all your BEA spoils, glad you had a lovely time!
You are a doll! I loved getting a chance to hang out and chat more
Great recap… I really should be writing mine now! I'm such a slacker today!
This sounds SO fun. You. Met. Meg. Cabot. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! i would so love to go to BEA. *Sigh….*
It was great to meet you for the short time at BBC. Loved your recap!
I've read quite a lot of people saying about the rudeness. It's not necessary to be rude, it's a shame they put a downer on your trip.
I would still love to go next year, the good things seem to counter the negative by far.
I am most jealous that you got 'Crossed' by Ally Condie, I am desperate for that book. Also that you met Maggie Stiefvater she is a legend.
I hope if I make it next year that I meet as many great fellow bloggers as you did.
Thanks for the great honest post.
Whew! I think I got exhausted just reading that, but so glad you had an awesome time! (Besides all the pushy arses.) I really want to try to go to BEA next year. Not just for authors and panels, but to also meet up with so many bloggers. Thanks for the recap!
This all sounds great. I can't wait to see your next IMM.
Looks like you had an amazing time! I ate at the Carnegie Deli last time I was in NY and was knocked out by the size of the burgers! I'm glad you had such a great time! Love your blog!!
Sounds like overal it was a great trip. I see planning is key to make sure to maximize your time. I'll remember that if I ever get to go.
And I feel terrible that there are rude bloggers out there that would act the way you described. It gives the rest of us bloggers a bad rap. *sigh*
Oh and it was nice you were able to spend a bit of time at the start with J for a mini holiday.
Very sweet.
I had a blast at the dinner! You are awesome Kristi and it's always a pleasure to see ya!
I had a blast at BEA! I really didn't see too many bloggers that were chatty. Everyone was on a mission for free books instead.
However, I meet some amazing random people in NYC and had more fun in town then BEA.
Oh wow Kristi! I'm part jealous and part super happy for you! I really, really hope I can finally go next year (and meet YOU!)
Thank you for the awesome post
Lovely recap! I'm sorry to hear you had to deal with so much drama, but I'm glad you also had some fun!
Awesome post! This is getting my psyched for next year's BEA!! Can't wait to see your IMM of everything you got. I'm loving the pictures all the different bloggers post of what they managed to snag.
Wow, sounds like your trip was amazing! Good for you for going with your husband early to spend some NYC fun time – I regretted not having more sightseeing time. I was at BEA as well, but didn't get a chance to meet you. Maybe next year!
I can't believe that happened in the Maureen Johnson line – that really pisses me off! I was like the second person past the cutoff, so I was too far from the drama to know about it, but I didn't get a book because of it, and I lined up at 9 with everyone else. Oh well, BEA karma – after the lovely people at Penguin let us know we shouldn't wait for naught, I jumped in Harper's line (uh, at the end, where you're SUPPOSED to go) and got to meet Melissa Marr (and nearly fainted from fangirl overdose)!! So all in all, pretty cool.
But seriously, how can you make someone (especially a teenager, when you are a GROWN UP) cry? Over a BOOK. Unbelievable…
Kristi, it was so wonderful meeting you! I wish we've had more time to chat. Seriously you are one of the sweetest persons ever and I'm glad I had the chance to meet you there!
Aw, it was so, SO nice to meet you too, Kristi! You are such an awesome person. I had so much fun
-Farrah
I'm still so jealous. It sounds like it was a blast. I wish I could stay in NYC longer when I go. I'd love to do BEA again next year, but I never get to do as much as I wish I could. Sigh. Oh well.
Yum Magnolia Bakery though! I miss those cupcakes STILL. They were great.
-Lauren
Oooh! I love Magnolia!
Sounds like you had a lot of fun!
Your experience in NY and at all the book events sounds amazing! I'm glad you had a good time. And *fingers crossed* there will be a next time that I get to see you and I PROMISE I'll come up to you and we'll get a picture together! <3
Great rap up Kristi!!! It was really great meeting you at BEA!!!!
OMG. I was the moron who walked right up and screeched "Oh, my goodness, it's Kristi from The Story Siren!" Yep. That was me. Then, I think I threw my hand at you, yelled who I was and my blog name, and then walked away. I'm so graceful…
It was awesome meeting you too finally!
It was fantastic to see you again! It looks like you had the perfect (and super busy) week in NYC. I hope to see you again next year.
