New Moon Movie

Friday, November 20, 2009

This very non spoilery. I don't even really talk about movie elements much. This is just a run down of my night. And how very fangirly I am!

I headed out early to pick up the tickets that I had bought weeks ago. Only to find out that my small town theater had entirely sold out of tickets for ten screens. That is insane.

Last year my sister Chelcea and I went to the midnight showing of Twilight, so it was sort of a tradition to do it again. I liked the movie Twilight, but I wasn't really impressed, with the actors, with the movie itself. I wasn't sure what to expect with New Moon.

My sister Laci and her friend met me and the local neighborhood grill, Applebees. My other sister Chelcea had class until 8 and my friend Carrie who was also meeting us for the movie took a nap before, so it was just us three at dinner.

There were people lined up already when I went to pick the tickets up at seven, but I wasn't too worried since they were showing the movie in every theater, last year for Twilight there was only two theaters showing the movie.  Anyhow, we ended up getting to the theater at 8:30, to wait in line. I had brought Uno and The Dark Divine to read while waiting in line. But instead we ended up watching Twilight at 9 o'clock, so we could reserve our seats in the theater for New Moon.

The theater was crazy! CRAZY! There were lines outside with people waiting to get in. They basically let you go from theater to theater to try to find a seat, so glad we decided to get ours early. My friend Carrie finally made it after Twilight was over, I saved her a seat, I'm a good friend like that. Almost forgot to actually! She had to work today, so she got a good nap in before the movie. On to the movie.....

WOW! I was totally blown away. I loved it! I thought it accurately represented the book, I mean it's been awhile since I've read New Moon, but I can't think of anything that they left out. There were a few things that might have been a little different, but just worked so much better for the movie.

The actors were 100% better. Especially Taylor, he really stepped it up, it's easy to see why he secured the part of Jacob Black. And Robert and Kristen were exponentially better as well. I loved the Quilete boys! The ENDING! WOW! Total cliffhanger! So GOOD!

I am definitely digging Chris Weitz's style, I wish he would have directed the first movie! I am still in awe this morning. I will be going back to the theater sometime again to see it. If you're on the fence about seeing New Moon because you didn't enjoy Twilight, it's worth it. I can't wait for Eclipse!

We are going tonight! I'm really curious to know how it turns out.

And bless Utah for having all their theaters use reserved seating. I don't know how we survived before it. BEST thing ever!!

Love your review! Let's us know what a fan thinks without giving anything away.

I'll be checking it out next week, once the lines get a bit smaller!

I had to go up to my neighborhood Powells to get a book for my son, and I couldn't figure out why the parking lot was SO packed. As I saw girls, girls, girls, walking around, I realized - ahhh, the theater next door was showing New Moon, starting at like 9:00 with many showings throughout the night.

Suzanne Young and I are going on Monday, when it will hopefully not be too crowded. I'm glad to hear you liked it - I'm excited to see it!

I went to the midnight showing too - I love the energy! I even put up a post comparing Twilight & New Moon, not too bad with the spoilers.

Totally agreed with everything you said. Weitz, the cast & the crew did a fantastic job. I really hope they bring him back for the 4th. New Moon was probably a tricky movie to do, and I know Breaking Dawn will be just as hard. But Weitz definitely proved himself worthy. Loved it. :)

Loved you review. I went to a midnight showing last night and I agree. Chris did an amazing job. The actors were great, esp the side characters.

aw, yay, i'm so glad you liked it! I really did too and i'm seeing it again tonight with my brother, mom, and sister in law, so it should be great.

I'm so happy it was better than Twilight, even though I love twilight for what it is...they did step up their game on this one and having more money helped. I love Taylor, he was amazing. great acting. and I hope people give kristen more credit now. she was great. I always loved her acting but I know some didn't like her in twilight.

Personally - I'm afraid to go the theater anytime this weekend.
I think I'll wait until Monday during the middle of the day to see the movie - that way I can watch in peace.

But I'm glad to hear it's better than the first one. Because honestly the first one made me laugh - due to all the running through the trees that looked like they were really running on a walker with a projected background sort of like they do in Loony Toons - you know what I mean - yeah - I bet you do.

Anyways - glad to hear this one is better.

I braved the rabid crowd of twilighters myself @ midnight last night. The movie ROCKED! I am still a die-hard Team Edward member....but Jacob was eyecandy!!!!

I thought the movie was okay. Better than twilight, but still thought it was a bit slow in parts, like the book. I think I pictured Aro(sp) to look a bit more sinister, and loved Dakota Fanning. Taylor is just adorable and there was a couple of funny moments in the theater.

One lady said 'Oh my' when Jacob takes his shirt off to dab at the blood on bella's head..then this guy says, 'come down ladies' it was so funny.

Then a guy at the end of the movie when it just ends..said, 'You have got to be kidding me' I laughed.

Was a fun movie experience.

I loved it, too! Wow--it totally blew TWILIGHT out of the water: the special effects, acting, dialogue...I think the director made all of the difference. Oh, and the fact that Taylor Lautner had a larger appearance didn't help...(:

It was pretty obvious that they had a much bigger budget for New Moon than the original Twilight, which made a big difference in a lot of the action / special effects scenes
