I’m joining up with a slew of Book Bloggers for the first ever YA Book Carnival! I think there are over 60 contests going on, so you have a ton of chances to win some very cool books! You can head over to Shooting Stars Mag to find all the contests, just click the “Mister Linky: You’re Next” button at the end of the post and it will give you all the links to the contests. I think I might even have to enter a few! There are even some international ones for all you international readers! So definitely head over there and check that out. Now to announce my contest:
I’m giving away an advance readers copy of Front and Center by Catherine Gilbert Murdock. This is part of the Dairy Queen Trilogy, which are AWESOME books. The first book is titled Dairy Queen and the second is The Off Season. If you haven’t read them yet, I’d really recommend that you do! You might not want to read the synopsis if you haven’t read the other books! Stop reading now!
D.J Schwenk is once more in the halls of Red Bend High School and just wants to fade into the background again. No suck luck. The pressures of love, family and school all collide during basketball season, when D.J. is forced to make some life-changing decisions. Her friendship with Beaner turns into something more, but her ex, Brian Nelson, lingers in the back of her mind. Win and her dad are on D.J. about verballing to Big Ten schools, while Coach K has scouts sitting in the bleachers to watch her lead the team and call the shots, literally. The stress and chaos leaver her doubting herself- can she really handle Big Ten ball?
How to enter: (please leave separate comments for each extra entry, if you leave one comment with all 4 things, you’ll just get one entry.)

+1 Stereotypical role I would like to see broken: male-dominant reporting on ESPN. I want to women commentators front and center. You have plenty of them doing the play-by-play for tennis and womens' sports, but do you see them doing the back-and-forth banter any time except during the Olympics? No. That needs to break down.

What I'm looking forward to most this summer? That's a tough one b/c I have about 100 books already lined up. I grabbed a bunch of arcs at BEA and have a ton that I have bought.

+1 I'm really excited about the new Vampire Academy book that comes out this summer in August.
I'm looking forward to reading The Hunger Games -yes I haven't read it yet- Im catching up slowly..
Oh my gosh, you have just made my day/night.
I would like to see more minority MCs who don't deal exclusively with "I'm a minority, my life is difficult" issues. Why can't one's minority race or ethnicity simply be a part of one's identity, and not the whole thing? I'd love to find more books that balance the divide well.
I have linked to this in my sidebar!
There are a ton of good books coming out this summer, so I'm just going to go with something light and fun right now, since that's what I'm in the mood for: Coffeehouse Angel by Suzanne Selfors.
Thanks for the great giveaway, Kristi!

Please enter me! Looking forward to Silver Phoenix by Cindy Pon!
This sounds like a great book, I'd love to read it.
I am looking forward to Catching Fire, now that I finally got to read Hunger Games
I would like to see more male teachers in the lower grades — I think the stereotype exists that it's more for women but I think it's important that boys have some male teachers to guide them during those early years as well.

+1 in the Dairy Queen trilogy D.J. becomes a football player for her high school football team, what stereotypical roles would you like to see broken?
I would love to see the pretty-girl/volleyball player cliche broken. I want to see a breakdown on the team where some of the girls are just different than that almost cheerleader image.

GIVE UP THE GHOST by Megan Crewe. I was a beta reader for her (many times) for this book year and years ago and I really want to see how it has changed.

+1 I would like all stereotypes to be broken really, but since that is highly unlikely in the near future, I'll pick the dorky nerds that have no life but school. Really, one can be smart and still have a life.

+1 looking forward to the hunger games sequel: catching fire and hush hush (Oct.)
I love this series to death!
I'd like to see less prejudice in positions of power. I've noticed that guys usually get the high paying jobs and women are still paid less for the same job. It's sad.
I'm most looking forward to Catching FIRE!!!!!!!

+1 For the stereotypes, I think Brian's character should be changed. He's just so typically the football-playing-hunk who's really a jerk, but when he works on the farm for a summer, he starts seeing the world differently and even falls in love with the girl who thinks she hates him….
ARgh!
For another one….
I'm really looking forward to lots of upcoming summer reads, but I'm really excited to read "Goddess Boot Camp" by Tera lynn Childs (ordered this one off of Amazon 2 days ago–yay!). I'm also excited about As You Wish, Tro High, Bedeviled, and a couple more!
@ Steph Su, I so agree w/ your comment.
Oh wow – I love this series and can't wait to read the latest one! Dairy Queen was my favorite though – hopefully this next one will be just as good!

I want to see the mean girl one broken or that all cheerleaders have to stick thin blonde and popular.(at my high school nobody liked the cheerleaders and the cheerleaders was a group you didn't to be in since they weren't popular and it considered not cool to be a cheerleader)

I think it would be nice to see more female sports on network TV–I'm not sure that's a stereotype per se except that we see boys as sporty and girls as not….There are sports for women but it's still the male teams on the main channels (and I don't even watch them
)
This sounds wonderful, I'd love to be counted in! Thanks for the sweet contest =)

There are a lot of stereotypes I hate. One of them is that jocks are stupid and jerks. It's always refreshing to read about a jock that's smart and is nice to everyone.
I'd love to enter.
The one book I'm looking forward to this summer is Along For the Ride by Sarah Dessen.
The book sounds so cool…count me in!

I absolutely love THe Off Season and Dairy Queen. They're sooo good!
I would like to see the stereotypical roles of girls be broken. DJ already broke that in a way when many people think girls can't play sports, but breaking more of the stereotypes towards girls would be great.
I'm really looking forward to Jumping Off Swings.
I'm most looking forward to Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins!
