Evermore (The Immortal series) by Alyson Noel

Release Date: February 2, 2009
Publisher: St Martin’s Griffin
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 301
Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see auras, hear people’s thoughts, and know a person’s life story by touch. Going out of her way to shield herself from human contact to suppress her abilities has branded her as a freak at her new high school—but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste…

Ever sees Damen and feels an instant recognition. He is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy, and he holds many secrets. Damen is able to make things appear and disappear, he always seems to know what she’s thinking—and he’s the only one who can silence the noise and the random energy in her head. She doesn’t know who he really is—or what he is. Damen equal parts light and darkness, and he belongs to an enchanted new world where no one ever dies.

I’m not surprised that I devoured this novel. I’m a fantasy junkie, what can I say. I’ve been pinning after this book for what seems like forever, so of course I had high standards. And honestly most of them were met, there were a few things that I would have loved to seen Noel elaborate on, but overall I was utterly and completely satisfied.

Let’s start with characterization. Ever was a solid character, I got her guilt, I understood her struggle, and her name is Ever.... could that possibly mean she lasts forever. Secondary characters were a little flat to me, I felt like Miles was a stereotypical gay male character, I would have liked to have seen him a little more three dimensional. Damen is, hot, yes... but what is his story?! I’m hoping to learn more about him in the rest of the series. He hasn’t really impressed me much yet, but that may change.

Drina as the antagonist, it think maybe my biggest complaint, the whole explanation sort of wrecked the ending for me. You’ll just have to wait and see, because I don’t want to elaborate to much on it. It’s actually one of the things I wished Noel had elaborated on a little bit more. Too far fetched maybe, or just possibly just a lack of explanation.

I loved the story itself, the plot was engaging, I really had no idea what was going on. I kept waiting for one big revelation, but really it’s just revealed piece by piece which was a welcoming change of pace. The writing was marvelous! Impressive imagery! It was customary to find myself lost within the novel.

I cannot wait to read the rest of the series! There is a sneak peak of the next book's cover (Blue Moon) in the back of the novel, and it looks spectacular! I only wish it was in color.

Hmm I've tried to get into Alyson Noel's work for a while, but I was always turned off by her lack of complete characterization. Glad for this review, though! The cover is highly attractive. Is it possible to lust after book covers? :)

Awesome review. I'm still a little unconvinced about this one, because I've read Faking Nineteen, Art Geeks and Prom Queens (or something like that) and Saving Zoe and could never really say I liked them just because of the cliche teen characters. :]

The plot line here intrigues me even though it feels a little cliche. I'm still thinking I'll probably try to read this one sometime just due to the good buzz it keeps getting.

I really like evermore, but i'm also a Twilight fan sooo.. Well one thing that Twilight didn't have was a very strong girl who knows pain who lost and learned. Bella in Twilight could easily fall in love when she never has experienced it.

I want to know: are people saying that Evermore Is like Twilight? Well those people didn't read the book because it's very different. This is my favourite book of all time!

I pretty much devoured Evermore too. I got it yesterday, and I'm about 35 pages shy of finishing it. I'm really satisfied with the book. For me, books have to pull me in quickly and keep me interested, because I lose interest pretty easily. I felt like Alyson Noel did a good job of giving pieces of the puzzle away at different times, but still left you wanting to know more, which is why I couldn't put it down. I thought her characters were a little blah, but I'm eager to read the next two books of the series and see how they develop.
